The man later passed away with having the chance to take the gun to the range. I originally sold this gun to the husband of a woman who worked in my gun shop. At this point in time, Springfield Armory was awash in USGI military parts and standard M1A rifles produced in this serial number range have a very high USGI parts count.

The receiver design had fully matured by this point and all receivers were hand finished by the original designer and master craftsman, Melvin Smith (later and current production guns are merely machine finished). This period (serial numbers 042201-063000) is considered "the golden age of the M1A". This is a factory original, pre-ban Springfield Armory M1A, unfired and in NRA Excellent Condition.
